There are various
cultural hubs, offices and educational institutes in proximity. The residential area around the market is one
of the posh settlements. During the afternoon hours, the place is flocked with
school children from Modern School, who come here for streetfood and light
snacking, after school or during long stay-backs. Apart from neighbourhood locals and
school children, there is presence of artists from the nearby- Triveni
Auditorium & Exhibition hall, Sri Ram centre for Art and Culture, National
School of Drama; workers and staff from FICCI; visitors from ‘Indian Natural
History Museum’. Students from nearby college i.e Delhi College of Arts, and
Lady Irwin College also visit the place for food and sweets.
It is the Nathu’s Sweet
house and Bengali Sweet house that give Bengali Market its fame. They serve
excellent quality of sweets along with other delicacies. Always busy and filled
up, it takes a lot of time to queue and wait for turn to come, be it a queue
for buying take away or waiting for dine-in. At the end, its all worth the
time.
